Students will learn by doing and living in the atmosphere where teaching occurs. Therefore ,later they will remember more.
Five core elements of successful PBL learning
- Establishing Real-World Connections in Projects
- Building Rigorous Projects That Are Core to Learning
- Structuring Collaboration for Student Success
- Facilitating Learning in a Student-Driven Environment
- Embedding Assessment Throughout the Project
I started to use it just a month ago with my students. It gives energy to the class and even the least interested student wanted to take part in the project. It is really great because you add technology to the lesson. When they see they can achieve something even better than their teacher, they become more motivated.
There are three problems I have faced so far. The first one is time. You cannot find enough time to study together with students because in my school the teachers don't want to participate that kind of activity. So unfortunately it is not core. That's why you cannot integrate the project into the lesson so you have to find a spare time to do it.Therefore , there comes the second problem .You cannot embed assesment throughout the project. The last problem is that sometimes students may not want to take part in such activities. When you force them, they do it involuntarily and the result may not be the one you expected or they can make the others work instead of themselves.
All in All, I can say that it is worth trying and I am happy to do it.
